How to enable DeepL translation?

All translations are performed using your DeepL API key. To use this feature, you need a DeepL API key (a text string provided by DeepL).

Currently, the app supports DeepL Developer and DeepL Growth keys.

Legacy DeepL API Free and DeepL API Pro keys are also fully supported; however, DeepL no longer offers these plans to new customers.

You can start with a DeepL Developer key, which is free and includes a quota of 1,000,000 translated characters. Please note that this quota does not reset. However, 1,000,000 characters is roughly equivalent to 150,000 words. If you translate about 1,000 words or short phrases per month, this quota could last for more than 10 years.

If your translation needs grow, you can always upgrade to a DeepL Growth plan.

To obtain a DeepL Developer API key, please follow these steps:

1. Go to the DeepL sign-up page:

2. Sign up for a Developer API plan

3. Open the DeepL API Keys & Limits tab and copy your API key into the Clipboards:

5. Return to the app “Lexilize Flashcards” and paste the key from the clipboard.

Please note: first-time key verification could take more time than usual.
During this time, DeepL makes some extra checks.
